天売島で人気の海鳥ケイマフリ。夏羽は全身が黒く、白いメガネをかけた様な顔に真っ赤な足、口の中も足と同じ赤色でその愛くるしい容姿が魅力的な海鳥です。ケイマフリという名前はアイヌ語の“ケマフレ”が由来で、“赤い足“という意味。真っ青な海の色とのコントラストもとても美しいです。

One of Teuri Island’s most beloved seabirds is the Spectacled Guillemot. In their summer plumage, these charming birds are entirely black with distinctive white “spectacles” around their eyes, vibrant red legs, and even a red mouth lining. Their adorable appearance is truly captivating!
It’s Japanese name “Keimafuri” comes from the Ainu word “Kemafure,” meaning “red feet”—a perfect description for their striking red legs that offer a beautiful contrast against the deep blue sea.
