焼尻島に咲く花　エゾフウロ

40年ほど前に我が家にお泊まりになったお客様が描かれた絵手紙が見つかりました。
そこには、島の海岸線に咲く「エゾフウロ」が描かれていました。

添えられていた詩には、こんな言葉が記されていました。

「焼尻の花　えぞふうろ」

汐風を頬に　花弁をゆらし
耳もとにささやく　花のことば
旅人を立ちどまらせる　花のほほえみ

その絵手紙を見て、久しぶりにエゾフウロを探してみました。
けれども、なかなか見つかりません。

それでも、またどこかでひっそりと咲く姿に出会えることを楽しみに、
今日ものんびりと島を歩いています。

花を探して歩く時間もまた、島の楽しみのひとつなのかもしれません。

“Ezo Fūro of Yagishiri”

The sea breeze brushes its cheeks,
its petals gently swaying,
whispering flower words
into the traveler’s ear.

A flower’s smile
that makes a wanderer stop and stay awhile.

Inspired by the painting, I went looking for the flower once again.
But no matter where I searched, I could not find it.

Still, I wander the island each day,
hoping that one day it will quietly reveal itself again.

The joy of searching is sometimes as precious as the joy of finding. On Yakishiri Island, even a flower can become a reason for a pleasant walk.
