絶景　牧場の夕暮れ

日本海に沈む夕陽はもちろん絶景ですが、
牧場で迎える夕暮れも、ぜひ味わっていただきたい景色です。

島を訪れたお客様に、
「夕陽と朝日、どちらが好きですか？」と尋ねると、
ほとんどの方が「夕陽」と答えます。

そこで私は、
「でも、手を合わせるのは日の出のほうですよね。」
などと、とりとめのない話をして楽しんでいます。

夕陽が嫌いという人もいます。

平清盛は、沈みゆく夕日に向かって
「落ちるな、戻れ。」
と言ったという話があります。
権勢を極めた人らしい、なんとも人間味のある逸話です。

一方、ブルースの世界には、こんな歌詞があります。

I hate to see that evening sun go down…

「夕陽を見るのはまっぴら。
あの夕陽を見ると、私を捨てて去っていった男を思い出すから。」

同じ夕陽でも、見る人によって、その色も意味も変わります。

だからこそ、焼尻島の夕暮れは、
訪れた人それぞれの物語を静かに映してくれるのかもしれません。

Evening at the Pasture

The sunset over the Sea of Japan is breathtaking, but the quiet evening in the island’s pastures is just as unforgettable.

I often ask my guests, “Which do you prefer—the sunrise or the sunset?”

Almost everyone answers, “The sunset.”

Then I smile and say, “But when people put their hands together in prayer, they usually face the rising sun, don’t they?”

It never fails to start an interesting conversation.

Not everyone loves sunsets, though.

There is a story that the warlord Taira no Kiyomori, watching the setting sun, cried out,
“Don’t set! Come back!”
Perhaps only a man who stood at the height of power would wish to stop time itself.

Then there is the famous blues lyric:

“I hate to see that evening sun go down…”

The singer continues:

“…because my baby, he done left this town.”

For her, the setting sun brought back the memory of the man she had lost.

The same sunset can carry different meanings for different people.

On Yagishiri Island, as the sun slowly disappears beyond the Sea of Japan, each visitor finds a sunset that speaks quietly to the heart.
