島の夏を歩く

北海道でも、テレビでは「猛暑に注意」「エアコンをつけないと命に関わる」と毎日のように呼びかけています。

昔は、暑くなれば木陰に入るのが当たり前でした。
けれど都会では、その木陰さえ見つけるのが難しくなりました。

でも、島は別世界です。

林の中へ一歩入ると、ひんやりとした風が頬をなで、暑さを忘れさせてくれます。
自然の力とは、本当にすごいものです。

その心地よい風を感じながら島をゆっくり歩いていると、クルマユリやヤナギランがひっそりと花を咲かせています。

一面に咲く花の美しさももちろん見事ですが、森の片隅で一輪だけ静かに咲く花と出会えたときの喜びは、また格別です。

ゆっくり歩き、少しだけ足を止めて周りを見渡せば、きっとその小さな出会いがあります。

それもまた、焼尻島ならではの楽しみの一つです。

A Summer Walk on Yagishiri Island

Even in Hokkaido, the television warns us every day about the intense heat, saying, “Beware of heatstroke,” and “Air conditioning can save your life.”

There was a time when, on a hot day, people simply stepped into the shade of a tree.
Today, in many cities, even that shade has become hard to find.

But Yagishiri Island is a different world.

The moment you step into the forest, a cool breeze greets you, and the summer heat seems to disappear.
Nature has a remarkable way of taking care of us.

As you stroll along the island paths, feeling that refreshing breeze, you may discover a Turk’s Cap Lily or a patch of Fireweed blooming quietly among the greenery.

A hillside covered with flowers is certainly beautiful, but there is something equally moving about finding a single blossom quietly blooming on its own.

Walk slowly, keep your eyes open, and the island will reward you with these small discoveries.

That, too, is one of the simple pleasures of Yagishiri Island.
