ヒヨドリ（鵯）**

島を歩いていると、ヒヨドリのにぎやかな声が聞こえてきます。
名前の由来は、「ヒーヨ、ヒーヨ」と響くその鳴き声です。

本来は夏に渡ってきて、冬になると南へ旅立つ鳥ですが、
どうやら島が気に入ったのか、冬もそのまま過ごす子もいるようです。

歴史の中でもヒヨドリの名は登場します。
源平合戦の「一ノ谷の合戦」で、義経軍が用いた
「鵯越えの逆落とし」という奇襲戦法は、今も広く知られています。

**Lively Companions of the Island

Brown-eared Bulbul**

The brown-eared bulbul fills the island with cheerful energy.
Its name comes from its call, sounding like hiyō, hiyō.

Originally a summer visitor that migrates south for the winter,
some seem to like the island so much that they choose to stay through the cold season.

The bird also appears in history.
During the Genpei War, Minamoto no Yoshitsune used a daring tactic known as
“the surprise descent at Hiyodori Pass” in the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani—
a name that has been remembered ever since.
