クロユリ（黒百合）

今年も、遊歩道のわきにクロユリが咲きはじめました。
初夏を彩る花ですが、見頃は今月末ごろまでです。

アイヌの伝説では、クロユリは「恋の花」とされています。
想いを寄せる相手のそばにそっと置き、
その人が手に取ってくれれば恋が叶う――そんな言い伝えがあります。

一方で、富山県には
「立山にクロユリが咲くとき、佐々家は滅びる」
という、どこか不吉な伝説も残されています。

日本人にとって「黒」はどこか神秘的な色ですが、
この花は、見た目も香りも、少し名前負けしているのかもしれません。

**Flowers of Yagishiri Island

Black Lily**
(Fritillaria camschatcensis)

As always, the black lilies have begun to bloom beside the walking trails on Yagishiri Island.
Though they are flowers of early summer, they will remain at their best until the end of the month.

In Ainu legend, the black lily is known as a flower of love.
If someone quietly places the flower near the person they admire,
and that person picks it up, the love is said to come true.

Yet there is also a darker tale from Toyama:
“When black lilies bloom on Mount Tateyama, the Sassa clan will fall.”
An ominous legend tied to the old castle town.

To the Japanese, the color black often carries an air of mystery.
But this flower, with its modest appearance and unusual scent,
may not quite live up to its dramatic name.
