**焼尻島に咲く花

エゾノヨロイグサ（蝦夷の鎧草）**

花の季節はもう過ぎました。

それでも夕暮れの野に、枯れた姿のまますっくと立つエゾノヨロイグサを見ると、思わず足を止めてしまいます。

その姿は、まさに「鎧草」の名のとおり。

刀折れ、矢尽きてもなお立ち続けたという武蔵坊弁慶の「立ち往生」を思わせる、凛とした佇まいです。

花が咲いているときだけが美しいのではありません。

役目を終え、静かに風に揺れる枯れ姿にも、その花ならではの美しさがあります。

焼尻島では、枯れた草花でさえ、何かを語りかけてくれるような気がします。

**Flowers of Yagishiri Island

Ezo no Yoroigusa (Ezo “Armor Plant”)**

Its flowering season has already passed, but at dusk, the dried stems still stand tall against the evening sky.

Looking at them, it is easy to understand why this plant is called “Yoroigusa”—the “Armor Plant.”

Its upright silhouette brings to mind the legendary warrior Benkei, who, according to Japanese legend, remained standing even after falling in battle, his arrows spent and his sword broken.

On Yagishiri Island, even flowers that have withered seem to have a story to tell.

They remind us that beauty does not end when the blossoms fade; sometimes, it lingers quietly in what remains.
